Let’s face it, fees on Etsy can be confusing to understand even for the seasoned seller. As a seller, you must enroll in Etsy Payments within your Shop Manager under the Finances tab and it’s in this section where you can see breakdown of fees on your sold products. The processing fees we’ll detail in this article are shown in your payment account and are deducted prior to deposit.

Etsy Listing, Transaction & Payment Processing Fees Explained

Etsy charges an additional payment processing fee, which is a percentage of the total product sale price plus a fixed rate per item sold. They deduct fees from the item’s total sale price, including shipping fees, and any applicable sales tax.

This processing fee is between 3-4%, plus an additional $0.25-$0.30 fixed rate per item sold, although it varies depending on country or region.

Processing Fees vs. Transaction Fees

Etsy charges a 5% transaction fee on the sale price of an item (including delivery price you set). If you accept payment through Etsy Payments, it’s worth noting that sellers will also incur payment processing fees on every transaction - these fees will be outlined in the table below and are typically 3-4% depending on region.

This means that if you use Etsy Payments, you will be charged the following on each item sold:

  • $0.20 USD listing fee to publish your items on marketplace (4 month listing period)*
  • 5% transaction fee
  • 3-4% + $0.25-$0.30 processing fee

*Note: listing fees seem to cause a lot of confusion among sellers starting out on the platform. You will be charged $0.20 to create your initial listing. For any listing that has a quantity greater than one, once you sell that listing, you can opt to automatically renew the sold listing to keep it available for sale in your shop. This means that every single sale you make will be charged $0.20 listing fee, plus the 5% transaction fee, plus the 3-4% processing fee noted above. The 4 month listing period noted on the listing fee is the amount charged to hold the listing as available for sale, but if sold it automatically charged you again!

Processing Fees + Transaction Fees Breakdown Example

You are a US seller in a state with no sales tax. You sold a t-shirt for $20 USD and offer free shipping.

The payment processing fees in USD on your item is: 3% + 0.25 USD
The transaction fee: 5%

This means that: the payment processing fee on your t-shirt is: $0.60 USD + $0.25 USD
Etsy Transaction fee on t-shirt: $1 USD
Listing fee is: $0.20 USD

TOTAL FEES = $2.05 USD

USD $20 USD (revenue) - $2.05 USD (fees)

PROFIT = $17.95 USD*
*Keep in mind, of course, this profit calculation is not accounting yet for your cost of goods or cost to ship your item to your customer!
